Description
The HR Collective has become a go-to space for Idaho’s manufacturing leaders—whether you carry an HR title or simply manage the people side of your business. The forum has evolved into a professional network that fosters collaboration and real-world knowledge sharing. Today, the Collective is positioned as a TPM-aligned, employer-led forum: a place where manufacturers surface shared pain points, translate them into data and insights, and walk away with tools, templates, and measurable fixes they can apply immediately in their workplaces
From pay and retention to engagement and career development, this is where meaningful conversations happen—with peers who truly get it. You’ll connect with industry experts, share best practices, and walk away with practical tools to support your people and strengthen your organization.
Join us this month for a leadership session focused on one of the most challenging workplace transitions: going from peer to boss.
Management is a learned skill, and new managers benefit from clear instruction to succeed in their new role, especially when they are learning how to relate to former peers. Research shows that nearly 60 percent of respondents identified adjustment to people management and displaying authority as their biggest challenge. This session examines what truly helps leaders establish credibility, set boundaries, and lead with confidence while maintaining strong relationships, as well as how HR can offer meaningful support.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to
- Help new managers use clear language to acknowledge the shift and reset expectations with their former peers
- Specify ways to let go of individual contributor skills and approaches and develop new behaviors that support confident leadership
- Identify the top skills new managers need to lead their teams successfully
- Support learning plans and methods that build management and leadership capabilities
- Describe how to lead with humanity and consistency
Whether you’re supporting newly promoted leaders or preparing someone for their next step, this session offers practical guidance for a pivotal leadership moment.
Why This Matters
Many leaders are promoted for strong performance—not for people leadership readiness. Without support, the peer-to-boss transition can create tension, disengagement, and avoidable turnover.
This session helps HR and business leaders proactively support new leaders, strengthen team dynamics, and set leaders up for long-term success.
