Description
Regulatory Requirements for Training
Where an employer requires an employee to use a respirator, OSHA requires Respirator Protection Training in General Industry.
Training is required prior to an employee’s initial job assignment and annually afterwards.
Course Description
Training meeting the requirements of OSHA 1910.134.
Note: Employers can elect to add quantitative mask fit testing services to be performed along with this training. OSHA requires annual mask fit testing for employees required to wear tight fitting facepiece respirators.
Course topics
- Employer requirements for workplace exposure assessments and OSHA occupational exposure limits.
- Respiratory necessity, limitations, capabilities.
- Workplace respiratory hazards (dust, fumes, vapors, particulates, atmospheric hazards).
- Respirator types (disposable, half-mask, full face, powered air purifying, supplied air).
- Emergency use of respirators.
- Respirator inspection, removal, use, seal checks, maintenance, and storage.
- Medical signs and symptoms that may limit or prevent the effective use of respirators.
- Elements of 1910.134 including medical clearances and fit testing.
